Frequently Asked Questions

Neuropsychological Health Coaching? Who is this for?
Neuropsychological Health Coaching is for you if:

1. You are having trouble with cognitive symptoms:
     - Forgetfulness
     - Short term memory loss
     - Struggling to come up with words
     - Difficulty with concentration
     - Getting easily distracted
     - Mind feels cloudy or foggy
     - Forgetting names of people
     - Or any other trouble with your thinking skills

and/or ...

2. You are having trouble with mood/emotion symptoms:
     - Depression
     - Anxiety
     - Worry
     - Anger
     - Irritability
     - Lack of joy
     - PTSD
     - Or any other mood/emotion troubles

You may know why you have these symptoms:
     - Concussion
     - Stroke
     - COVID infection
     - Cancer
     - Major surgery
     - Other infection
     - Multiple sclerosis
     - Or any other ongoing health condition

Or maybe you don't know why and you're looking for answers.

Or ...

Maybe you are not the one having the trouble.

Maybe you have a spouse, parent, sibling, adult child, or other adult significant other that is having these troubles, and you need to better understand why and/or what to do about it.

If any of these things apply to you, this coaching is meant for you.

Do I need a referral?
Nope. No referrals necessary.

In the past, for neuropsychological evaluations, I also required updated labwork, updated imaging (CT/MRI scans), and completion of a lengthy health history questionnaire before being scheduled.

These are also not necessary to sign up for coaching.
Why Coaching? Why not neuropsychological evaluations?
More information. Greater benefit and transformation. Faster (no waiting lists).

I provided neuropsychological evaluation/testing services for over 15 years. At one point the wait time for an evaluation with me was about 6 months. That's way too long to have to wait for neuropsychological care.

I needed to find a way to care for more people without making them wait.

By switching from long evaluations to brief coaching visits, I can guide more people to better understand their own mind, the many factors that could be getting in the way for them, and what to do about it.

More information and support, less wait time.
Is this covered by health insurance?
Coaching appointments are just that: coaching. These are not medical appointments. In order to have the flexibility needed to provide more care and value, for more people, without waiting lists, these appointments don't check the right boxes to be considered formal healthcare, and so are not covered by health insurance.
Can my spouse/parent/adult child attend the visit with me?
Yes! Absolutely! I encourage this. Having a spouse, parent, or adult child participate in the appointment with you will actually help you benefit even more (and they might benefit also!).
Concussions?
Individuals with concussion can still be referred to Dr. Bridgman, but with some important differences.

He is not providing formal concussion "evaluation and management" services at this time (no diagnosis, or clearance for work/school/sports services).

However, anyone with cognitive or mood symptoms (such as listed in the first question above) from a concussion will benefit from the coaching appointments and so should be encouraged to schedule. They are welcome to ask any concussion-specific questions during any of those appointments. Through these visits, they will come to better understand their symptoms and what to do about them, which they can then discuss further with their other healthcare providers to adjust formal treatment plans as needed.
